The clown, the buffoon, the abhorrent, sexist, ignorant ape that is Donald Trump, is coming dangerously close to becoming President of one of, if not the most, powerful country in the world. Writing this article has felt somewhat cathartic for me; I am not American, I cannot vote in the election, and so perhaps it is the best and only way to express my terrified concern. Perhaps the dismay of Brexit could have been thwarted if more people laid out their opinions more ardently. We must, pushing our reluctance to one side (for she is not my first choice for President either) support Hillary Clinton in this presidential campaign – she is, as the saying goes, the “lesser of two evils.”

Many people are being spoon-fed the idea that ‘Trump equals Success’ due to his appearances on The Apprentice US, and are applauding the chance to celebrate “whiteness” again after the horror of having an African-American president. Trump provides a hate-vessel, a gold-plated ark (funded by his ‘small’ $200 million loan from his father, of course) and that hate vessel glides over a sea of poverty, failing health services, sexism, police brutality and class discrimination. His involvement in alleged frauds and lawsuits alone amounts to a stupid number. When someone is so blinded by their own narcissistic wealth, and brags about how rich they are on a consistent level, it becomes almost impossible for them to understand the plight of others in a way that a President must.

I feel that one of the easiest ways to portray Trump’s stupidity is to simply list stupid things that he’s said. Exhibit A: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re bringing rapists.” Sorry Trump, what did you want them to bring? Guacamole and churros? Aside from the casual assertion that all Mexican emigrants are drug-using rapists, Trump seems to think that Mexico are interviewing potential immigrants to see if they’re “baddie” enough, and then mail-ordering them out to San Diego. The man is delusional.

Exhibit B: “I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them inexpensively […] on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall.” Firstly, why should we believe that you are a great wall-builder? Where is the evidence? Have you built walls before? What a stupid thing to say. Has this idiotic buffoon not learnt from history – the horrors of the Berlin wall for example? And to make Mexico pay for a 2000-mile long, Brexit-esque structure? Our own country recently turned its back on the people of our neighbouring countries, and if Trump gets his way, the USA will join suit.

In critique of Obama, Trump has said: “our great African American president hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore!” Alright Donald, what if you became President and we decided to blame you for all the stupid shit some white people do? His defiant insistence of using the monolithic definite article to describe non-Whites – “the Muslims,” “the Hispanics,” “the Blacks,” is just a surface example of how out of touch with reality he is. Trump is, undeniably, racist and sexist – despite his claim that he has “always had a great relationship with ‘the Blacks.’” Where to begin?

Well, here’s some evidence: he’s refused to disavow the Ku Klux Klan and renounce the support of white nationalist and former KKK leader David Duke; his real estate company has been sued twice by the Justice Department for not renting to black people; he claims to have “proof” that Obama’s birth certificate is illegitimate; he said he “appreciated the congrats” for “being right about Radical Islam” after the Orlando nightclub shootings where 50 people were shot dead. That’s not even the start of it. It’s hardly surprising that he has won the support of America’s white supremacists.

His history of degrading women is extensive also: agreeing that his daughter, Ivanka, is a “piece of ass,” and that if she wasn’t his daughter he’d “probably be dating her” – calling breastfeeding “disgusting” – insulting female journalists with jibes such as likening them to dogs, calling them “bimbos,” insinuating that they’re on their period – calling a Latino pageant contestant “Miss Housekeeping,” – and even how women apparently are fine with being “grab[bed] by the pussy” by famous men, revealed in a damning tape just this week.

I’m sad that so many Americans are ignoring this. I’m sad that a silent majority are clutching to their prejudiced views and giving such a venomous man support.

We all spent our GCSE History lessons wondering how Hitler rose to power. Now, I understand a little more clearly- how a bigoted, divise man can manipulate the plight of a divided country.
